How are taxes collected?
Part of the Treasury Department, the
Internal Revenue
Service (IRS) is in charge of enforcing tax laws and
collecting taxes. Our system of income tax is called a
graduated or
progressive income tax, where the more someone makes,
the higher their tax rate. This was a product of the
Sixteenth Amendment
to the Constitution.
