Question:
How do interest groups use the legal system to their
advantage?
Interest groups use the legal system to support their agenda.
Public-interest law firms bring lawsuits (litigation)
on behalf of individuals. Lawsuits are a way of changing
policy without going through legislatures. As will be
discussed in the Judicial Branch chapter, strategies involve
amicus curiae suits
(“friend of the court”) and
class action suits.
