Definition: Philadelphia Convention:
Philadelphia
Convention
55 delegates assembled in
Philadelphia in 1787.
Their intention was not
to make a Constitution, but rather to
amend the
Articles of Confederation. Of course as it turned out, they
would indeed write a new Constitution here.
You need to know that the
Constitution is the document we live by, and is essentially
the rules of the game of government. The Constitution has the
final say and is the highest law of the land. As we shall see,
it was a bundle of
compromises.
For more on the Constitution, see the rules of government
under the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branches within
these flashcards.
