Page 3; Trip #2 – Four States, Four Corners, Four Parks, Four Days.
4 Days:
Santa Fe, Grand Canyon, Four Corners, Arches National Park, Colorado
National Monument, Rocky Mountain National Park.
Day 3 – Grand Junction and Breckenridge.
It’s
only about two hours to the
Colorado National Monument. This place is home to some of my
favorite spots in America. It’s kind of like a combination of Arches
National Park and a baby Grand Canyon. To me, Colorado is the most
beautiful of the Continental States. The drive between Grand Junction
and Rocky Mountain National Park will show you that. Slowly, you will
see the rocks turn to snow peaked mountains. When people go to
Colorado, they aren’t there to stay in the cities. There are so many
outdoor activities you can do in Colorado. My advice is to stay in
Vail or Breckenridge and find some outdoor sports and hiking to do.
Day 4 – Estes Park / Rocky Mountain National
Park / Denver and home
Did we
wake up in Moab yesterday? Did that really happen? It’s true, we did.
One last monumental park.
Wake
up, and take the trip North to
Rocky Mountain National Park. Be warned: If you want to see
wildlife, then get there EARLY. The animals are harder to spot as it
gets warmer during the day. Be careful as you are driving up Trail
Ridge Road. Don’t ride the brakes on the way down, it’s bad for the
car … actually, it’s not your car, so POUND THE BRAKES FOR YOUR
SAFETY. After admiring the snowfights at 10,000 feet (yes, there is
snow even in July), head to Estes Park for lunch. Then, it’s onto
Denver to return the car. There are some nice sites to see in Denver.
Walking the main drag to the Capital is fun. Or, if you have time,
check out Boulder instead. Also, if the Rockies are in town, check out
Coors Field. Return the car, hop on a plane, and you just had one
ridiculously productive four day weekend.
