After a few years of
attempting, and after a very generous donation, Schreiber High School
will finally have a radio station at the beginning of next year. Here
are some of the FAQ's about it.
Q. How strong will the feed be,
and what station number will
WDOT
be?
A.
The station will not be FCC regulated. Because of this, we are only
legally permitted to broadcast 1/2 mile on 530 AM. HOWEVER --
we will broadcast over the internet, so the signal could go as far as
Portugal if we wanted. Q.
How do I get a show on
WDOT?
A. The plan is that everyone
interested will eventually be part of a show. The duration of that show will
depend upon how many people are interested.
Q. When will
WDOT
be broadcasting?
A. In its infancy, WDOT
will broadcast select mornings before school, and select times during
the day.
Most of this depends on Mr. Klaff's schedule, and his ability to be in
the station making sure that you aren't cursing on the air. Recorded
shows will broadcast throughout the day once shows accumulate.
Q. Where will the station be
located? A.
Across from the Student Commons.
Q. I understand we are starting
off small, but what will happen down the road with
WDOT?
A. Down the road, the
expectations are high. In 2006, there will most likely be a course to
take in Radio
Broadcasting. By
2008, we hope to have a broadcasting schedule of 7:30 AM to 3 PM
or 4 PM. Q. Will
I have to talk about social studies on
WDOT?
A. Nope. The station will be free format. However, I would like to
have a News Department, Public Affairs, and of course ... Sports!
Viking sports, and professional sports together.
Q. I want to broadcast sports ...
is that possible?
A. Sure is. We are ordering
portable broadcasting equipment that can be taken down to a game, and
used for broadcast on the air. Therefore
-- if there's a big basketball road game, the equipment can be taken
to the site, and the game can be listened to over the air ... LIVE!
Q. I'm not really good with
technology. Do you think I can be able to figure out how to be a DJ?
A. Of course. It's not hard.
Q. I don't want to go on the
air alone, do I have to?
A. At first, people will go on
the air with others. When we start broadcasting more and more, it will
create more individual time slots.
Q. Who won the World Series last
year? A. Not the
Yankees ... again. |
