Definition: Karl Marx and Socialism
During the Industrial Revolution,
people were suffering from hard work and an increasing gap between
the rich and the poor. Germans Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote
The Communist Manifesto in 1848 to
protest this gap. They encouraged the lower class, the proletariat,
to rise up and eliminate all distinctions of classes. Marx favored a
classless society.
